EMPLOYERS >What are Australian Apprenticeships?

Australian Apprenticeships encompass traditional trade type Apprenticeship positions as well as Traineeships. Australian Apprenticeships are now available in more than 500 occupations nationally, in both emerging and well-established industries.

Australian Apprenticeships combine practical work with structured training to allow Australian Apprentices to be skilled productive members of staff trained to meet the specific needs of your business and the industry in general.

Australian Apprentices can be full or part time or even undertaken by school students, and incentive funding is available for both new and existing employees. For more information on the generous incentives that are available, please visit our incentives section.

Australian Apprenticeships are covered by formal agreements known as Training Contracts. These contracts set out the training and supervision an employer must provide for the employee, as well as the employee’s obligations as a Australian Apprentice. Training Contracts are a legal requirement that underpins the Australian Apprenticeship Program and must be completed and signed by both the employer and New Apprentice immediately after commencing a Australian Apprenticeship.

They are flexible and allow both the employer and the new apprentice a greater say in the training that is undertaken and the choice of registered training provider.

Australian Apprenticeships training has been designed by industry for industry. The training can be delivered on-the-job, off-the-job, or a combination of both. Off-the-job training is done with TAFE colleges, business colleges, or other approved training providers.

The majority of Australian Apprenticeships are now competency based rather than time based thereby allowing the new apprentice to complete their training sooner provided they satisfy the set industry standards.

Apprenticeships Melbourne can assist your business in determining the industry specific Australian Apprenticeship for your business, assist you to complete all the necessary paperwork and advise you on all the available financial incentives of hiring a new apprentice.
